The ATACC Group (UK) Medical Director receives Fire Service Award.
We are very proud of The ATACC Group (UK) Medical Director, Dr Mark Forrest, for receiving a Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service Chief Fire Officer’s commendation following his work on October 7 last year in Delamere.
Late last year, Mark attended a serious road traffic collision involving a motorcyclist who suffered a traumatic cardiac arrest. Working with another doctor on the North West Air Ambulance, Mark performed open chest surgery and successfully resuscitated this man who was effectively dead in the street. Remarkably, the gentleman has made an excellent recovery and since gone home to his family.
Mark was the first Medical Director for a UK Fire and Rescue Service, leading on trauma training and Clinical Governance for the Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service and over the years he has taken the Service on a journey from First Aid at work to the current position as one of the UK’s leading providers of our IECP enhanced Firefighter casualty care. As a result, Cheshire are the current UK Trauma Challenge champions.
Mark doesn’t just develop the service training, he also oversees the delivery of this care across Cheshire, supporting crews and helping the public. He is on call every day for life or limb-threatening emergencies and where necessary he will provide prehospital enhanced medical skills at the roadside in support of the emergency services.
In acknowledging this extra-ordinary achievement, Mark has been awarded the highest honor of the Fire Chief’s commendation, together with 4 Firefighters who were also involved.
